Is this a blog about sports? No. But surviving barstool is one of the hottest things on the Internet, bar none currently…and boy did it get juicy last night.
First off, if you haven’t watched last nights episode, you need to. And also, there are some spoilers ahead so please continue reading after you’ve watched. MAN did last night get intense, from the immunity challenge to the elimination and everywhere in between.. lets start from the top.
Ria has been running this game since day 1. A tip of the cap to her because, regardless of her pre-game alliances, she knows ball when it comes to survivor/surviving barstool. She has strung along the likes of will Compton, Kelly Keegan, moobie, and even bossman Dave Portnoy. She has done this all the while having an idol in her pocket, that everyone has known about since the pink wedding, and she didn’t have to play it??? Insane. Ria, cheers to you.
The immunity challenge saw Dave win, in an intense battle that came down to him and Rico. Shit. I was rooting for Rico for the theatrics of the show, because surely if he lost he was first on the chopping block. It’s one of those things where you watch a show, and you just start to root for the underdog. And after the last elimination that saw Ria basically telling Rico he’s fucked unless he wins the challenge, you just cant sit there and not feel for the guy. Honestly, after all of the talk of Dave in the confessional about how he wanted to get Rico to the final, I thought he might just throw the challenge there at the end. Rico had so many chances that just barely lipped out.. and shout-out to the crew behind the scenes, they make this shit so dramatic with the camera switches and the background audio choices… Bravo 👏.
Once the challenge was over, it was pretty clear who the target was. And again, the theatrics of the editing was incredible. Rico, sad puppy, was packing his stuff until he got a fire lit under him to go searching for another idol. I was hooked. Megan (sorry if I spelled that wrong) knew she was next in line to get axed if he found an idol, so she tried to block him…until Rico found his fourth damn key in the game. Seriously?? This guy has an eye as good as Sherlock Holmes…or a horseshoe up his ass, one of the two.
The way they edited the entire episode was killer, but the ending was the cherry on top. Rico goes into confessional with the key, my heart is pounding, he goes to open the box and then BOOM. Another incredible cut to afterwards. Also, Megan at this point is shaking in her boots…rightfully so…as this is all going down. Not only that, but she was snooping on the confessional trying to hear just a sliver of a peep if Rico got the idol…and production shut it down perfectly. They knew, in the moment, that the rest of the episode could be ruined if she heard what happened. A golden move by the producer there.
Cut to the elimination ceremony, and I’m on the edge of my seat..they walk in, no one but Rico knows if he had the idol…Votes are in, Ria plays her idol (it’s the last time she can so that’s a no brainer), and Jeff asks if anything else can be played…
Rico doesn’t have it. A heart breaker. I wouldn’t consider myself a Rico Rider, but I was rooting for the guy here.
It just goes to show you how masterful of a game Ria has played, she basically guided every single vote that occurred this season (obviously excluding the pre-merger votes where her team wasn’t involved). And man, Megan stepped up big time in the individual immunity challenges. Besides this last one, she killed it. Winning 2 individual immunities and building up her resume. Not to mention Moobie, a floater of all floaters…not to throw shade in that way, I think she set herself up so well that she never needed to win. It’s almost as if everyone forgot she was able to be voted for? I love that.
Through and through, this season has been a Woman’s game. And I’m totally here for it. Ria, Keegs, Megan, Moobs. A devasting lineup of killer women. They made for amazing television, and were ruthless in their tactics throughout the game. Running the show from the beginning until now. It’s all to say, Ria deserves this damn win. She’s played the best game by far. If she makes it to the final, which i fully anticipate happening, she deserves to get the trophy for Surviving Barstool Season 4. Oh, almost forgot…they probably shouldn’t allow texting between the castmates next year….especially in the event someone has been eliminated, they shouldn’t be able to contact the house…no shade on Will, I have no idea if that was laid out prior to the game though.
I will have my popcorn ready for the next episode, and can’t wait to see how this ends up.
